Digital Behavior
BEHAVIORAL PSYCHOLOGY | USER EXPERIENCE | GAME DESIGN THINKING | HUMAN CENTERED DESIGN | DIGITAL CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT
THE ASK. I overheard a question, "Does Game Design Thinking, User Experience and Human Behavior have anything in common?" Many people (design, technology, UX) in the room said "No", which my immediate answer was "YES! I would like to take the lead on that research."
THE APPROACH. As a passion project, I did a deep dive into digital behavior, user experience methodologies, and game design thinking. My approach was to first do an information gather, pulling from 75+ articles, 30+ books, industry expert lectures, in-house expertise and years of my own knowledge in human centered design. I then distilled this into 9 principles. To test these 9 principles, I conducted an internal workshop to test them with designers, developers, biz dev and strategists. After that successful workshop, I generated a presentation explaining each principle through a formula of user and business perspective and highlighting the five applicable methodologies to make that principles successful. Additionally, I choose an in-market product example for each principle to showcase how that principle can have success.
THE OUTCOME. Today Smashing Ideas calls it Motivational UX, a trademarked market differentiator for providing client services in creating innovative products. After my initial delivery of the 9 principles, I continued on as a leader in this user-centric approach to innovation . Creating internal training tools, client training workshops, biz dev communications and presentations.
